Located in southern California, Joshua Tree National Park is a desert landscape dotted with rugged rock formations and twisted, bristled Joshua trees. As the name implies, this National Park is named after a particular tree that occupies most of the land here - the Joshua Tree. Despite their name, Joshua trees are not trees. Joshua tree (Yucca brevifolia) is a member of the Agave family. Trees of this species are known to grow as little as 1 to 3 inches every year, giving them a lifespan of nearly 150 years.
